Woman Arise is pleased to announce that it managed to raise £1,330.74 from this year’s Great Manchester 10km Run, which took place on Sunday, 18th of May 2025.

The proceeds have been donated to two ongoing causes that Woman Arise has been involved in as part of their women and youth empowerment objectives.

Area 25 Clinic in Lilongwe, Malawi

In recent years, the clinic has made significant progress in expanding its maternity services, beginning with the construction of a new labour ward and followed by the addition of a post-natal block that still requires essential medical equipment. The facility has since been upgraded to a community hospital, now serving as a key referral centre for the entire district. As a result, the hospital provides maternity services to an estimated 10,000 women annually, placing considerable demand on its resources. In response to this growing need, Woman Arise donated critical medical equipment, including a suction machine, a nebuliser, adult weighing scales, and penguin suckers, thereby directly strengthening the hospital’s capacity to deliver safe, effective, and life-saving care for mothers and newborns.

Upon receipt of the medical equipment, Madam Ngoma expressed her gratitude for the donations. She stated that the equipment will help with the everyday operations at the hospital, especially during this time when they are providing maternity services to a lot more women.

Thithimila Primary School, Kasungu, Malawi.

The remaining proceeds were strategically used to provide essential learning materials to vulnerable learners at Thithimila Primary School, directly addressing a critical barrier to education in rural Malawi. The country is home to an estimated 1.8 million orphans and vulnerable children (OVC) (National Plan of Action for Vulnerable Children 2015–2019), with rural-based learners facing the greatest risks due to extreme poverty and psychosocial challenges. Located in one of the most remote areas of Kasungu District, Thithimila Primary School serves approximately 90 vulnerable learners who struggle to access even the most basic educational resources. Through this support, 61 school bags, 200 notebooks, and 200 pens and pencils were provided, resources that are essential for improving school attendance, participation, and learning outcomes.

In his remarks, one of the teachers, Mr John Cosmas, thanked Woman Arise for the donation and asked that the organisation continue to donate learning materials because most of the learners at the school lack these learning materials.

Vote of Thanks from Woman Arise

Woman Arise would thank everyone who donated to the cause.

Further, thanks go to the following:

·         The Afrofit Team in Gorton reached out to communities to collect funds for the cause.

·         Mr Andrew Luwaja from Surgline (Malawi) for supplying Woman Arise with the medical equipment.

·         Heights Logistics (Malawi), which helped to procure the products and provided the transport to deliver them to the two locations.

We will be back next year, and we therefore require your continual valuable assistance.

May God bless you.
