Fundraiser Report 1 - Area 25 Clinic

Updated: Dec 29, 2023

On 21 May 2023, as part of the Woman Arise Afrofit Program, Mary Moyo Kachitsa and Patricia Kulipa Chimangeni joined the 25,000 people who took part in the Great Manchester 10k Run. In addition to getting fit, the ladies joined the run to raise funds for a couple of causes in Malawi.

Woman Arise is happy to announce that, it has presented the first part of its fundraising proceeds to Area 25 Maternity Clinic. The presentation took place on the 25th of August, 2023. While the ladies from Woman Arise ran to raise funds for beds, the administration team from the clinic advised the organisation to procure patient trolleys and wheelchairs because these were the medical equipment that fell into their priority list of needs.

Area 25 Clinic in Lilongwe, Malawi

A few years ago, The clinic acquired a new labour ward. This ward has 8 delivery rooms, 1 emergency room, a nurses’ station, a resuscitation station and some stores. Since then, the clinic has acquired an additional post-natal block that requires to be fitted with additional medical equipment.

According to the Matron of the Clinic, Madam Modesta Nyando, the services of the clinic have expanded. They now provide maternity and ante and post-natal services to an estimate of about 700 women in a month. This translates to the provision of maternity services to about 8,000 women. Please note more information from the Matron of Area 25 Clinic, Madam Modesta Nyando.

Malawi has one of the highest maternal mortality ratios globally, currently estimated at 439 maternal deaths per 100,000 live births (USAID, 2021). The donations from the fundraising were therefore aimed at procuring the medical equipment, at one of the clinics, Area 25 Maternity Clinic in Lilongwe, thereby, alleviating some of the problems that the clinic experiences.

Vote of Thanks

Upon receipt of the medical equipment, Madam Nyando expressed her gratitude for the donation of the patient trolley, patient wheelchair and medical walker from Woman Arise. She stated that the equipment will ease the transportation of patients especially pregnant women to and from the operating theatre.

Woman Arise would therefore like to thank everybody who has supported this initiative financially and morally, to make this happen.

May God bless you.
