Fundraiser Report 2 - Thithimila Primary School

On 21 May 2023, as part of the Woman Arise Afrofit Program, Mary Moyo Kachitsa and Patricia Kulipa Chimangeni joined the 25,000 people participating in the Great Manchester 10k Run. In addition to getting fit, the ladies joined the run to raise funds for a couple of causes in Malawi.

Woman Arise is happy to announce that, it has presented the second part of its fundraising proceeds to Thithimila Primary School. The presentation took place on the 17th of December, 2023. The ladies from Woman Arise ran to raise funds to procure learning materials for the most vulnerable pupils at the school. The school also provided some of the learning materials to the best performers at the school.

According to a report by the Government of Malawi, there are over 1.8 million orphans and vulnerable children (OVC) in Malawi (National Plan of Action for Vulnerable Children 2015-2019). OVCs who are rural-based are the most at-risk group due to their high levels of poverty and their psychosocial instabilities. Therefore, the donations from the fundraising were set aside to procure learning materials for the OVCs at the Thithimila Primary School.

“Education, in particular, can leverage significant improvements in the lives of orphans and vulnerable children” (UNESCO).

The donations contained 40 school bags, 270 notebooks, 90 pencils and 120 pens. When receiving the donations, The headmaster, Mr Makondetsa, stated that the donations would act as a starter pack for the vulnerable pupils who struggle to access learning materials. The donations will also motivate the pupils to come to school, thereby, reducing the number of absences. He further stated that both the teachers and pupils are happy to receive the donations because this aid will ease the teaching and learning process.

Vote of Thanks

Upon receipt of the learning materials, Mr Makondetsa expressed his gratitude for the donation. He asked Woman Arise to continue making such donations because the learning materials have a positive impact on the teaching and learning process.

Woman Arise organisation would like to thank everybody and all organisations who have supported this initiative financially and morally to make this happen.

May God bless you.
