Introducing the Woman Arise 10km Squad!
Woman Arise is pleased to announce that it managed to raise £1,127 from 2024’s Great Manchester’s 10km Run on Sunday 26th of May 2024.
The proceeds have been donated to two ongoing causes that Woman Arise has been involved in as part of their women and youth empowerment objectives.
Area 25 Clinic in Lilongwe, Malawi
A few years ago, The clinic acquired a new labour ward. Since then, the clinic has acquired an additional post-natal block that requires to be fitted with additional medical equipment. The clinic has also been upgraded to a community hospital, which oversees referrals from all over the district. This translates to providing maternity services to up to 10,000 women per year. Woman Arise has donated a patient monitor, drugs trolley, baby scale basin and penguin suckers to the clinic.
Upon receipt of the medical equipment, Madam Nyando expressed her gratitude for the donations. She stated that the equipment will help with the everyday operations of the hospital, especially when they are providing maternity services to many more women.
Thithimila Primary School, Kasungu, Malawi.
The remainder of the proceeds went towards buying school bags, pens, pencils, and notebooks for ‘vulnerable’ learners at Thithimila Primary School. The donations were made as a response to the report which was issued by the Government of Malawi, which states that 1.8 million orphans and vulnerable children (OVC) in Malawi (National Plan of Action for Vulnerable Children 2015-2019). OVCs who are rural-based are the most at-risk group due to their prominent levels of poverty and their psychosocial instabilities. Thithimila Primary is one of the Primary Schools that has a high number of vulnerable learners who require assistance in terms of learning materials.
In his remarks, the Headmaster, Mr Trueman Makondetsa thanked Woman Arise for the donation and asked that the organisation to continue donating learning materials because most learners at the school lack these learning materials.
