Valentine's Day and What It Should Mean To Single People

“Valentine’s day is finally here! Where is your boyfriend/ girlfriend? are you sitting at home, lonely? for most of you who are on social media you can testify to how this skit has been making rounds on social media platforms, from WhatsApp, twitter to Facebook. There is a certain kind of pressure that comes with the month February because of Valentine’s Day. Valentine’s Day, also known as Saint Valentine's Day or the feast of Saint Valentine, is observed on February 14th each year.

There are many stories about the origins of Valentine's Day, ranging from the celebration of St. Valentine to a Roman fertility festival. However, there is one thing we can all agree on: "Valentine's Day is a day of expressing love to the people we love." This love extends beyond romantic feelings. Valentine's Day is and should be observed by everyone who has people they care about including oneself. This is a reminder that you don’t have to sit out Valentine’s day just because you are single.

If you're single after a breakup, a failed talking stage, or a situationship, you might be feeling sad or lonely, just remember that Valentine's Day is about more than romantic relationships. Now that we've established that Valentine's Day isn't just for those who are madly in love, there are plenty of people you can celebrate with who aren't romantically involved with: friends, family, and coworkers. There are a lot of things you can do on this day to show care and appreciation for these people. For instance, you can spend a little more time than the usual with your family or friends, buy them simple gifts, cook for them and even listening to them can make a whole of difference in someone’s life.

Happy Valentines Day, and remember Valentines day is for everyone!
