Women in Malawi are not exempted from body Dysmorphia which is mostly perpetuated by body shaming. A lot of women in their lives have ever been shamed for their body shape or size. Women get shamed for being too curvy, or not being curvy, for being too fat or too slim. Now that people are becoming more concerned with their physical health, cases of shaming oversized individuals are increasingly becoming rampant. You might have experienced before what I am talking about if you have ever gained a few KGs. Family, colleagues and random people have no issue pointing it out to you condescendingly and suggesting work out plans in the process, making it all feel like being fat is a bad thing.
Strides towards body acceptance campaign have come a long way in Malawi. Back in 2013, we had Miss Matofotofo beauty pageant which provided a platform for plus-size women to showcase their beauty and talents. The initiative went well and we had gone several years without hearing anything similar to its kind. So, I was very ecstatic when I came across the news that a Facebook page is set to launch, a platform called ''Ms Plus Size Malawi''.
The Ms Plus Size Malawi platform intends to offer a safe place where women will find inspiration, support, fashion tips, lifestyle ideas, healthy tips and body positivity messages. The launch of this intuitive shows a significant step towards creating a more inclusive and body-positive society. By fostering connections, providing valuable resources, and organizing empowering events, this initiative aims to empower women to love and accept themselves fully.
Both the events; the launch of 'Ms Plus Size Malawi Facebook Page' and the 'Miss Matofotofo' have been playing and will still play a greater role in plus-size women's lives in different ways. For example, as more women join the movement and contribute to the online community, the impact of Ms Plus Size Malawi will extend beyond the internet, positively transforming the lives of countless individuals by showing them new tips of how they can take care of themselves and challenging society's narrow definition of beauty.
Miss plus size events have been helping a great number of women to love their bodies, and more are to be reached, giving them healthy and lifestyle tips as well as giving a picture to society on why we should learn to embrace and not discriminate against other women's bodies. Let us join forces, as a country by supporting, liking, following and sharing 'Ms Plus Size Malawi' new Facebook Page.
