There is No Such Thing As A ''Man's Job''

In a world where gender stereotypes have been deciding the types of jobs women should pursue, it is high time these limitations are brushed off. The ideas that certain jobs are exclusively designed for men brought about inequality and hindered women's professional growth. Therefore, these thoughts should be challenged and women should be empowered to pursue any career they desire without fearing society or judgement from others.

As long as I can remember, gender stereotypes have dictated which careers are considered appropriate for women. For instance, jobs in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (known as STEM according to google), as well as fields like media as a photographer and videographer, construction, politics, and finance, have been labelled as "men's jobs." These labels have made many talented and capable women look down on themselves and not enter these fields. However, as a country and individually, we must recognize that skills, abilities, and passion know no gender boundaries.

Expectations put in front by society can be possible barriers for women aspiring to pursue non-traditional careers. The pressure to conform to traditional gender roles and expectations often limits women's aspirations. For example, a young woman may not go far with her education bearing in mind that her gender roles are to take care of her home while her husband is the family's breadwinner. However, it is important to change these expectations to create an inclusive society for all. By embracing the talents and encouraging women to pursue their passions, we can pave the way for a more equitable future.

Education and skill development are tools of empowering women to pursue any career of their choice. It is very considerate to provide equal access to education, technical training, and mentorship programs for women. By making sure that women have adequate knowledge and skills, we give them the tools to excel in any field they choose. Many success stories highlight the transformative power of education in breaking down gender barriers and empowering women to reach their full potential. For example, I know many girls who graduated from Lilongwe Technical College in different courses like plumbing and Mechanical Engineering.

Despite these ''men jobs'' thoughts, creating supportive environments that aid gender equality is essential for women to thrive in their careers. Also, employers play a vital role in coming up with policies and practices that promote diversity and equal opportunities. By making workplaces value and celebrate diversity, we can create a safe space where women feel empowered to pursue any career path they desire, knowing they will be judged solely on their skills and abilities.

Role models impact shaping aspirations and breaking down gender barriers. It is essential to highlight the achievements of women who have fought stereotypes and achieved remarkable success in their chosen fields. Their stories serve as a source of inspiration and motivation for other women of all ages, showing that there are no limits to what they can achieve. Moreover, every woman has the potential to become a role model by sharing her true life experiences and empowering others to follow their dreams.

The world is flourishing and it is time to discard the notion of a "man's job." Women have the right to pursue any career they desire, free from societal judgments and limitations. By breaking stereotypes, overcoming societal expectations, promoting education and skill development, fostering supportive environments, and celebrating inspiring role models, we can empower women to pursue their passions fearlessly. Let us work towards a future where no job is restricted by gender.
