Navigating Problems Female Writers Face

Even though writing is exciting, it has its challenges, especially for female writers as compared to men. They face these challenges at places like work and even in society. Some people have their own beliefs as to why they prefer male writers to female writers.

One of the challenges women writers face is the gender bias which is also found in various fields. Writing, to express oneself and tell a story is not an exception. The assumption that a female writer's work is driven by feminism is a stereotype that many women encounter as it is said it is mostly ignored by the male point of view. It is important to remember that women, like men, draw inspiration from a number of sources and experiences, and our writing reflects our  world in different and exciting views.

As a part-time writer at Malawian Girls Rock Blog, I've had my share of challenges. One of the examples was when a male reader claimed that I write because I am a feminist, rather than considering all perspectives. This experience highlights the struggle women writers often encounter when trying to voice their opinions and experiences.

Moreover, the fact that there are more educated men than women makes readers to firstly think that the story might be poorly written before reading it. As such, women are not regarded as strong, intelligent writers. Some go about making assumptions that all women love to write about love stories, topics they haven't fully researched and ofcourse religion. Nevertheless, men read men more but women read both.

In addition, women writers often have to battle with self doubts on their abilities despite the competition. This self-doubt can be brought out when, for instance, others challenge the authenticity of their work. It is essential for women to have the confidence on top of self love to continue sharing their unique voices and perspectives as it is what they are passionate about, regardless of criticism.

The challenges faced by women writers are many, including gender bias and sometimes, the misconception that their writing is motivated by feminism. These challenges may hinder women from expressing themselves freely. However, it is important to remember that women writers, like all writers, have their own stories to tell through their unique writings.
