Joyce Mhango Chavula, a multi-award winner, is a source of inspiration in Malawi's cultural and arts scene. She is known for her roles as an actress, filmmaker and a host, just to mention a few. Her journey in the Malawi Movie industry has been remarkable as she has been recognized for her significant contributions in the industry by receiving the Women Of Substance Award in Arts and Culture by Pan African Learning and Growth Network this year (2024) among other awards and nominations over the years.
Born and raised in Malawi, Rumphi, Joyce pushed boundaries, using her creativeness to write stories, wake up emotions in people and enhance Malawi’s cultural appreciation. As an actress, she has graced our screens with her captivating performances of different characters and narratives. For example, she has appeared in movies and Tv Series like The Last Fishing Boat, Highbrow and Fatsani. Her being able to stand out in the movie industry has captivated audiences and helped her to earn a place among the nation's treasured talents. Joyce's passion for storytelling goes far beyond filmmaking, where she not only showcases her visions but also makes unheard voices to be heard. To add to that, she sheds light on pressing issues as well as fostering positive change within communities. She has produced movies like, for instance, Lilongwe, Nyasaland and No More Tears.
