Professor Ngeyi Ruth Kanyongolo was honoured with the Lifetime Achievement award and has been hailed by Habiba Rezwana Osman as a passionate Professor and deserving of this award. The Professor is a Malawian lawyer, academic and businesswoman who serves as Unima's first female Associate Professor in the Department of Practical Legal Studies at Chancellor College. She holds a Ph.D from the University of Warwick, a LL.M from the University of London and a LL.B (Hons) from the University of Malawi.
She specialises in Labour, Social Security, Politics, Women and Law. She's also published in many refereed journals and has presented several papers at many international conferences centred on Social Security, Labour Law and Gender and Political Participation in Malawi. She has worked as a consultant for the Government of Malawi, UN Women, UNDP, Equality Effect, NGO-GCN, Dan Church Aid, SASPEN and ILO.
She has also served as a commissioner on the Malawi Law Commission's Gender and Law Commision, where she contributed to the review of all gender related laws and policies in the country. She also worked on the SADC Gender Barometer Project with Gender Links/GEMSA. She has also contributed to the UNDP Gender and Human Development report.
Professor Kanyongolo is a Director for Standard Bank, Malawi; Equality Effect of Canada; Southern and Eastern Africa Centre for Women and Law based in Zimbabwe and has previously served as President of the Women Lawyers Association and as Vice President of the Malawi Law Society.
