Holiday Season Safety Reminders

The holiday season, the time we get to let relax and enjoy ourselves with family, friends, and loved ones, also happens to be the ideal time for criminals to perpetrate crimes. Feeling festive can lead to us doing things we wouldn't ordinarily do on a regular day criminals use this well-known truth. As we continue to celebrate the holidays, let us remember to stay cautious and never let our guard down. Here are a few suggestions for staying safe.

Being conscious of your environment. The shops, markets, and shopping centers are frequently busy during this time of year, giving you a false sense of security. Shops and restaurants shutting late, as well as the decorative lights illuminating the streets, can cause us to unwind and pay less attention to our surroundings than we would on an average day. Always be mindful of your surroundings so you can see problems from a distance and avoid stepping into a trap.

Keep your handbag and phone off the sink in the restroom! In party settings, clubs, and gatherings, purses and phones are relatively accessible targets. Ladies frequently make the mistake of putting their purse or phone on a sink in a public restroom simply because it is a restroom for women only. Do not blindly trust anyone because they are a woman; keep in mind that women can be crooks as well.

Watch out for Taxis. Yes, Taxis are more practical and adaptable than any other type of public transportation, particularly while attending events. When hiring or boarding a Taxi, women should exercise caution, especially at night. To start with, you can book a taxi in advance so that you have their contact information and other details to give to a loved one you can trust in case something were to happen to you. Secondary, make sure you share the number plate and your location with a loved one you trust. Lastly, trust your intuition, if you feel like something isn’t right, don’t board the Taxi.

Don't overshare on social media. I know it's difficult when you're used to informing your online buddies about everything that's going on in your life, but refraining from doing so might spare you from a lot of trouble. It is preferable to wait and not post in real time, your plans or images if you will be away from home for a long time in order to prevent unintentionally luring burglars into your house. And if you are traveling alone, keep that information to yourself unless you are certain that you are fully safe.

The best safety advice is don’t trust anyone. Be safe, happy holidays!!!
