Female musicians push for their work to be known just like male musicians do. They may be putting a lot of work more than men but due to bias and other reasons it is hidden and sometimes unappreciated. Nevertheless, we must celebrate the achievements of our female musicians in this country and worldwide.
Female musicians over decades have been striving for their music to be appreciated and reach a wider audience. Some of these female musicians failed to do so due to reasons like, for instance, lack of musical resources and negative comments from people, just to mention a few. Some succeeded in being recognized nationwide and in international industries to a point of being nominated and receiving awards. For example, Malawian female artists like Keturah, Rita, Kim Of Diamonds and Zani Challe, won the Best Female Artist of the Year awards in the years 2021, 2020, 2019 and 2016. To add to that, there are some who won awards outside the country, for instance, Queen Mishu as Female Artist of the Year in South Africa at the Mdubz Jozi Awards and Queen Sheba as Artist of the Year in UK at the Malawi Heritage Achievers Awards. As one way of celebrating these achievements through awards, one of the Music awards boards in this country, Urban Music People officially known as UMP Music Awards said they came up with these awards with an aim of celebrating achievements in music and promoting urban music artists including females.
Celebrating the contributions and achievements of female artists and promoting their work can help to create a more inclusive and diverse art world for all women in music, that is; composers, songwriters, performers and artists. It can also make them feel appreciated and work extra harder in their careers. Women in music have endured and persevered continued bias but in the end stood up for themselves just to get to where they have wanted to be. Female artists have made and of course still making significant contributions to the world of art, and their achievements should be celebrated.
Female musicians should be celebrated although they face bias and most of their work is unrecognized. Their achievements should be put in front here and then so that they should be acknowledged from time to time.
