I'm glad to see that we're heading in the right direction as a country. Other previously unrecognized professions, particularly those in the art industry, are gradually gaining acceptance. Among other professions, I'm referring to potters, painters, writers, photographers, illustrators, and social media influencers.
Because of the dire situation, most gifted children were forced to pursue careers in which they had little interest in, such as engineering, architecture, medicine, or nursing. Well, can't really blame parents for doing that because we assumed, they were looking out for their children's best interests, especially since those other professions didn't pay such artists at all or paid them very little.
Of course, we are still in the early stages of fully accepting and welcoming such work, but it is still disheartening to see how underpaid many of these artists are. Most of them are unable to support themselves solely through their art, and as a result, they are forced to find another job and work part-time on something they enjoy. There is a lot that needs to be done in order for different types of artists to be able to support themselves solely through their work. Working two jobs should be something they choose to do rather than something on which they rely on for survival.
As we catch up and accept that these professions can be profitable, there have been those who have tried to hold us back . Individuals who have a stereotypical view of what constitutes a real job. Individuals who dismiss other professions because they appear to be simple. These types of people are quick to belittle other people’s work in order to get a discount.
There are many things we can do as individuals to support individuals who have chosen to pursue other careers, one of which is to recognize the amount of effort someone has put in to get where they are and to pay for the services or products they provide.
